When to Call Ortho (for A Patient on Trauma/SGB/Blue)




For what should I call orthopaedics for patient(s) on SGB?
1.     Changes in neurovascular assessment distal to the fracture or ortho injury
2.     Clarifications or questions relating to:
a.    Traction – skeletal, Buck’s (or occasionally Halo*)
b.    External fixation devices
c.     Splints, casts, plaster
d.    Immobility/mobility orders – i.e. weight-bear status
e.    Drains (JP, penrose, etc) – from ortho operative sites
3.     Unrelenting pain related to orthopaedic injury or pain disproportionate to injury
Who should I call?
Consult resident #330-6946 during daytime hours
On call resident for nights & weekends

Remember there are some dead spots within the hospital so re-paging may be necessary.
Should the resident not respond to multiple pages within a reasonable amount of time (as it relates to the urgency of the issue), contact the chief resident on service or the attending.
