Preface

The Faculty and Staff of the Trauma Program at UK Healthcare are pleased to present the Trauma Protocol Manual. This manual has been created based upon best practice guidelines in the field and is continually updated and expanded to include more resource material relevant to the variety of disciplines involved in the care of the multi-injured trauma patient. The UK Trauma Program strives to deliver timely and effective care to the injured patient utilizing evidence-based guidelines and protocols. This manual outlines expectations and standards of care appropriate for Level 1 Trauma Center designation.
To further enhance trauma care internally and in our service region, the Trauma Protocol Manual is published on-line via uktraumaprotocol.blogspot.com, the Department of Surgery Website, the Trauma Program Website and the University of Kentucky CareWeb. These sites may be accessed at the web addresses listed below. New and/or updated protocols/guidelines will be posted on the website. The UK Trauma Program recommends periodic review of the site to monitor for latest revisions. Providers who identify opportunities for revision that will make the manual even more evidence-based should contact the Trauma Medical Director.
