Alpha Blocker Protocol***
1. Start
terazosin 2 mg q HS.
2. If
patient remains unable to spontaneously void after 3 days, increase to
terazosin 5 mg q HS.
3. If
unable to spontaneously void after 3 more days (6 days post removal), increase
to terazosin 10mg qHS.
4. If
hypotension occurs at terazosin 5 mg or less, change to tamsulosin 0.4 mg q HS.
If unable to void after 3 days, increase to 0.8 mg q HS.
5. If
hypotension occurs at terazosin 10mg, change to tamsulosin 0.8 mg q HS.

***tamulosin (Flomax) cannot be
crushed and/or administered via NGT or DHT; follow up with pharmacy for
alternative treatment options.
