Trauma is not diverted.
The on-call Faculty specialty surgeon is dedicated to UK HealthCare for the
emergency evaluation and management of trauma within that specialty. If the on-call Faculty becomes
encumbered and additional surgical resources are required the back-up
surgeons will be notified. In the
event that all specialty surgery faculty are encumbered, the (General) Trauma Surgery Faculty
are able to provide initial evaluation and stabilization of the specialty trauma
patient. In the event back-up resources
have been exhausted, the hospital trauma bypass/diversion protocol will be
implemented.
All cases requiring transfer, bypass or diversion as a
result of this policy will be reviewed by the Trauma PI process.
