Physical and occupational therapy are important components of treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery after injury. Early involvement of PT/OT can accelerate the care process and throughput. However, premature consultation can result in a wasted effort by the therapy team evaluating patients who are not yet clinically appropriate. The guidelines below provide guidance for optimal timing and process for consulting PT/OT. Providers should consider discussing optimal timing during morning huddles (8am Multidisciplinary ICU Huddle or during daily discussion with Case Management on the ward).
