Agitation in TBI-PSH-Paroxysmal Sympathetic Hyperreactivity

Paroxysmal sympathetic hyperactivity (PSH) has predominantly been described after traumatic brain injury (TBI), which is associated with hyperthermia, hypertension, tachycardia, tachypnea, diaphoresis, dystonia (hypertonia or spasticity), and even motor features such as extensor/flexion posturing. To address this difficult clinical challenge, a multi-disciplinary team (RN, PharmD, Rehab, Provider) was assembled to develop the algorithm below and an easy-to-use order set to accompany it.
